AFFINITY HOUSE: A house in the island
Can architecture be a device to free ourselves from the pandemic?
This house began to be designed during the pandemic in 2021.
At that time, people had to separate themselves from the crowd or to be silent in a chaotic environment,
so it was felt that it was very necessary to lay a strong basic concept in creating a post-pandemic house.
When compared to the frenetic surroundings of Jakarta, a design that offers a sense of comfort
as well as a space for contemplation is a striking contrast.
In the first approach, which was based on the findings of visual research conducted in the nearby area, it was found that the fence walls and house buildings are, on average, attached to one other. As a result, the architect offered the idea of a house that is similar to an island and is distinct from the wall. I proposed the idea of designing a residence that had the atmosphere of an island.
This residential area is actually like a separate island in a larger area consisting of semi circular islands, since this area also borders with the Pondok Indah Hospital.
This building is freed from its relationship with the fence or wall that limits it so that this architecture becomes an organic architecture but also as an insertion form the environment. Just like another island.
The second technique is to increase the size of transparent windows, which can be opened in any situation. These two solutions give both natural ventilation and improved ventilation. I was thinking about ways to integrate nature with the constructed world.
The following step is to design a garden or park that functions as both an urban void and an integrated feature of the residence. An urban courtyard is created on the back side of the house that allows the building to breathe well with the addition of tall fossil tabebuya trees that can be enjoyed from every floor.
The freedom of nature to expand and acquire the central space shows that the power of nature provides balance to the building.
